Highlights from the August 12th Regular Council Meeting
- An information presentation was provided by Mariana Iglesias regarding the heritage designation process.
- A delegation was provided by Sharon Halpenny regarding the former Wolford School property. A petition was presented and received for information as well.
- Council approved the sale of property appraisal and stop up and permanently close by-law 52-2024 for a portion of the Drummond Street unopened road allowance.
- Part Lot Control By-law 50-2024 was adopted and endorsed to be sent to the Counties for final approval for the Moderna Homes Lewis Street Townhouse development.
- The request to proceed with declaring the portion of Concession 4/5 road allowance as surplus was deferred to a future Council Meeting for further information on the subject property.
- Winter Maintenance Level of Service By-law 51-2024 was approved.
- Council approved the position of a crossing guard to be posted at the Read Street and Brock Street intersection along with posting crosswalk signage.
- The proposal for the 2025 EOFA Firefighter Games was approved and endorsed by Council. Merrickville Fire Department will be the host for the 2025 Firefighter Games.
- Council approved the revised ATV Trail Proposal as presented.
- The request from Gather Brewery to waive sections of Chip Truck By-law 26-07 was approved.
- Council received for information a petition for heritage designation of McGuigan Cemetery and written submissions pertaining to the proposed heritage designation.
- Council supported the Sustainable Funding for OPP resolution from Township of Terrace Bay and the AMO Economic Prosperity Review resolution.
- Council supported the resolution and letter to be sent to Public Services & Procurement Canada regarding the Lasalle Causeway.
- Council approved Report HPAC 2024-01 - Approving the recommendation of proceeding with the heritage designation of McGuigan Cemetery.
Council and staff officially welcome Darlene Plumley as the CAO of Merrickville-Wolford, effective August 1, 2024.
