Ontario’s Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) provides an individual with the right to access records of information, including one’s own personal information, under the custody and control of a local government institution.
The purposes of this Act are:
Tor provide a right of access to information under the control of institutions in accordance with the principles that
Information should be available to the public;
Necessary exemptions from the right of access should be limited and specific; and
Decisions on the disclosure of information should be reviewed independently of the institution controlling the information; and
To protect the privacy of individuals with respect to personal information about themselves held by institutions and to provide individuals with a right of access to that information.
Many of the Village’s records are available without making a formal request for information. Some records may be posted on the Village’s website, or are available by contacting the Municipal Office.
Formal Requests Under MFIPPA
Individuals wanting to submit a formal request for information under the access to information legislation (MFIPPA) may contact the Village of Merrickville-Wolford.
Formal requests must be made in writing using the MFIPPA Access/Correction Form and be accompanied by a $5.00 application fee. Additional fees for search time, photocopies, etc. may also apply. The rules regarding the payment and amount of fees are set out in the Act and its regulations.
