Council, Boards and Committees

• Council meetings are being held via Zoom at this time and are being livestreamed on the Village of Merrickville-Wolford's YouTube channel. 
• Please note that audio recordings of Council Meetings are also available on the Village’s website in order to maintain transparency.

Village Office and Facilities

• Municipal facilities, including the Village Office and community centres, remain closed.
• Due to the current Provincial Emergency Orders in effect, the Village's recreational facilities remain closed. 
• Staff are working from home, where possible, but can be reached by phone, email or regular mail.

Building Department and By-law Enforcement

• To keep our Building and By-law Enforcement Officers safe and reduce the spread of the virus during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Village has placed the following restrictions on site inspections:
  • No inspections shall be carried out within an enclosed and heated building or structure, within any building that is occupied, or in the presence of any person such as a building owner, occupant or representative.

• All other requests for Building Code and By-law Enforcement inspections will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

• The Province has granted By-law Enforcement Officers authority to enforce the Provincial Emergency Orders with respect to the unlawful operation of non-essential services and gatherings of more than five (5) people, which may result in fines for non-compliance.

Landfill and Garbage Collection

• The Landfill remains open, but only payments by debit will be accepted.
• Increased safety measures at the Village Landfill have been implemented. Please respect the 2 metre rule and our Landfill staff as they take steps to protect the public and themselves.
• All bags must be tagged. Bag tags can be purchased at the Landfill, the Quickie, the Food Market and the Merrickville Drug Mart.
• For landfill passes, please contact the Village office at 613-269-4791 ext. 221
• Waste collection rules in Merrickville practiced by our contractor, Limerick Environmental Services, have been revised for safety reasons. Effective immediately all solid waste must be securely tied in plastic bags and not in an additional garbage container when placed out for collection. No loose materials will be collected at this time. All recycling materials must be sorted by the resident as per the recycling schedule. Garbage and recycling will not be picked up if these rules are not followed. Thank you for your cooperation.
• Brush Amnesty Days are scheduled for April 3^rd, April 10^th, June 5^th and 12^th and September 4^th and 11^th, 2021, where one half-ton truck or 4x8 utility trailer of brush per property will be accepted free of charge.

Finance, Bill Payments and Changes to Late Charges

• Payments to the Village, including your water bill, taxes, or parking tickets, can be made using the drop box in front of the Village Office, or by mail.
• Water bills and taxes can also be paid online or at your local bank.
• The 2021 Budget has been passed with a 0% tax increase.

Fire Department and Burn Ban

Total Open-Air Burn Ban LIFTED

The Ontario Fire Code states that ALL Open-Air Burning must be approved by the Chief Fire Official of your municipality, therefore residents are reminded to follow the Village's  Open Burning Regulations. 

Although the Open-Air burn ban has been lifted, residents must continue to follow all Federal and Provincial Government COVID-19 Orders which include physical distancing and no large gatherings.

All residents who wish to burn are required to have a Burn Permit and must call 613-706-2330 every time before burning.  Failure to comply with Open Burning regulations may result in fines or a reinstatement of the burn ban.

Support Programs for Our Local Businesses

• MERRICKVILLE-WOLFORD COUNCIL APPROVES RELIEF MEASURES TO HELP EASE FINANCIAL PRESSURES DUE TO CHALLENGES FROM COVID-19:
  • Waived late payment fees and penalties for residents and businesses connected to the water/wastewater system until the end of July 2020.
  • Revisited the 2020 budget and reduced the previously approved tax increase of 3.13% down to 0.44% for all ratepayers – residential and commercial.
  • Changed water and wastewater billing classes, reducing utility rates for businesses by applying residential rates to all commercial users in response to the pandemic.

    • On June 25/20, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) launched a campaign to boost ‘shop local’ efforts. Here are some ways we can all join in and help out:
      • Use your social media to encourage and challenge your followers to “shop local” and visit the CFIB website to take the shop local challenge: http://www.smallbusinesseveryday.ca/
      • Post pictures and recommend local businesses on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #SmallBusinessEveryDay and ask others to do the same

• NEW DIGITAL MAIN STREET PROGRAMS: As part of a partnership between the federal and provincial governments, Digital Main Street announced three new programs to help small businesses create and enhance their online presence and reach more customers:
  • ShopHERE provides small businesses and artists with a quick, easy and no-cost way to start selling online right away;
  • Ontario Grants Program provides main street businesses with $2,500 Digital Transformation Grants; and
  • Future Proofing Main Street assists businesses with identifying new markets, pivoting their business model, and developing and implementing a digital transformation plan.

• BUSINESSES RE-OPENING FOR CURBSIDE PICKUP, WITH STRICT SAFETY GUIDELINES: As the Ontario government gradually loosens restrictions for businesses, allowing more businesses to open to the public, and allows curbside pickup and delivery, it is important for businesses, community members and visitors to follow public health measures and workplace safety guidelines to help stop the spread of COVID-19. • IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON LOCAL BUSINESSES - SURVEY RESULTS IN:
  • Council received the results of a recent Business Survey completed by Merrickville-Wolford businesses. The survey was conducted in partnership with the United Counties of Leeds Grenville Economic Development Department and regional business support organizations. Village staff have reviewed all responses and assisted local businesses regarding government relief programs and resources.
